When I Die

When I die, I won’t regret
not taking the time to smell a flower,
to feel the wind on my bare skin
and to touch the sky.

I won’t regret
not making love every time I could,
not dancing wildly in the moonlit woods,
not howling and crying and whispering
alone.

And when I’m dead
most assuredly I won’t regret
not talking to my dear ones more
often and deeper and truer and
looking them in their heart
through my own.

I won’t regret
all that
when I’m dead
simply because I’ll forget.

My witness,
the soul,
will have already moved on.

But I have one thing
going for me
today:
I
am
still
alive!
